Army Viewer Version 0.5.3 Walkthrough

Army Viewer Version 0.5.3 Walkthrough

Overview

Hey folks, John here from Easy Tabletop Gaming. Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a tool I built for WH40k players, with plans to expand to other systems in the future. This tool allows you to view your army roster in a quick, tabular, and sortable format while you’re in the midst of a game. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you get the most out of our Army Viewer tool.

Getting Started

First things first, you’ll want to visit our tool at easytabletop.com/tools/armyviewer. When you first access the site, you’ll see some dummy data I cooked up to help you get a feel for how the tool works. This allows you to click through and see the layout before uploading your own roster.

Uploading Your Roster

To upload your own roster, head to the upload page. Currently, the tool only support the Battlescribe roster file format. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Prepare Your Roster File: Use New Recruit or Battlescribe to export your army list. Make sure to choose the .ros file format, as .rosz files are not supported.
  2. Upload Your File: Navigate to the upload page on our tool. You can drag and drop your file or select it manually.
  3. Verify Your Data: Ensure all the data looks correct, including system and points, then hit “Use this Roster” to load your data.

Using the Tool

Once your roster is uploaded, you’ll be redirected back to the starting page, now populated with your actual data. Here are some features you can utilize:

  • Sorting Data: Sort your units by various attributes like movement, toughness, and wounds. You can also sort alphabetically.
  • Viewing Units: Click on any unit to view its detailed stats and abilities.
  • Managing Armies: Add, open, or delete armies directly from the page. You can switch between different armies or view the demo data if needed.
  • Dark Mode: Switch between light and dark modes for your viewing comfort.

Tips and Gotchas

  • Include All Units: Make sure to include any spawned units in your roster, even if it exceeds your point values. For example, if you’re playing Tyranids and have a unit that spawns Ripper Swarms, include the Ripper Swarms in your roster.
  • Verify War Gear and Abilities: Ensure all war gear and abilities are correctly set up before exporting your list. This helps avoid missing details like weapon splits in your units.
  • Data Storage: Your data is saved locally on your device, not in the cloud. Be mindful that clearing cookies and site data might delete your saved rosters. Always back up your data if you’re concerned about losing it.

We Welcome Your Feedback

I’ve built this tool based on the lists I play with, so while it should be generic enough to handle all lists, I might have missed some features for other armies. This is one of the first web tools I’ve deployed, and I’m eager to learn and improve. Developing this tool has been a great learning experience, and your feedback is incredibly valuable. Whether you encounter bugs or have suggestions, I’m here to listen and make this tool the best it can be.

Feel free to reach out with any feedback, positive or negative. Your input is invaluable in helping me enhance this tool for all players.

Enjoy the Tool!

I hope you find the Army Viewer Tool as useful as I do. If you enjoyed this guide and the tool itself, don’t forget to like and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more updates. Happy gaming, and take care!
